• Please take note of the end of the year activities on the May calendar. June 4th will be our class picnic and we will have an end of the year program on June 5^th     the main center. This is our last day and the children will be dismissed after the program. Wow…so hard to believe we are discussing end of the year already!
• If any of you are interested in summer camp; it will run from June 10^th to the 14^th.

We had fun with the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar last week. We used story props to role play the story, did some fun art projects and practiced our sequencing skills at the same time. Our new sight words are GO and DO, please add these to your list of words. We continue with the short U sound as in “run” and we are working on word families with that sound. We continue to practice letter recognition and sounds daily, so that the children who have mastered the skill do not regress and it is reinforcement for those who are still working on that skill. Please remember over the summer to practice all letters, their sounds and sight words as well.
 
In Math, we finished up joining and separating of groups. This week we begin working on numbers to 30.  We will continue to work on addition and subtraction skills; please practice at home.
 
In Science we are discussing butterflies. Maybe your child has already told you about the new addition to our class……5 baby caterpillars!!  We watch them daily and will closely observe how they will turn into butterflies.
 
In Religion, we are discussing the mass and the parts of it.

Thank you for supporting our Art Show. The children loved creating their original oil painting and dressing their person. We know both of these will find a special place in your home.

At last count, we have 290 books! Since those beginning days, the children have shown such growth and progress. We are proud of them.

Continue reading »]]> We had such a nice Easter Party this week; I can’t thank all the moms enough, who helped in various ways. Some of them stepped up at the last minute to donate items that were needed so…..thank you, thank you, thank you! Special thanks to Mrs. DiRenzo for organizing everything; it was wonderful!
 
It’s so hard to believe that the third quarter is just about over! We have been doing various testing and I sure am pleased with the progress that they all are making. June will be here before you know it!
 
In Reading we are improving by leaps and bounds. They are really putting those sounds together nicely to form words. Our reading is becoming much more fluent lately; the more confident they become with the skill, the more they will enjoy it. After vacation, we will begin to discuss the “main idea” of a story and our next sight word will be “TO”. Please continue with letter recognition and their sounds; we do not want them to forget!
 
In Math, we are learning basic number sentences during our morning meeting time in the morning. We do one or two a day and they are catching on quickly. I am stressing addition mostly at this point, we will do subtraction also. During our regular Math lesson, we are beginning to discuss time to the hour. We will get more into it after break.
In Religion we are discussing Holy Week and Easter!
In Science we discussed “OVIPAROUS ANIMALS”; ask your child what that means and which animals are oviparous!

Thank you to all the parents for your continued involvement and support. Our school year has been wonderful and it is such a pleasure sharing time with your children.

Continue reading »]]> The children are really progressing with all pre-reading skills such as letter recognition and sounds, rhyming, segmenting, and blending of those sounds. Thank you for all of your hard work at home. I am pleased with how well they are reading the little readables that we send home. I hope they are keeping the books in a safe place, so that they can read them at any time. We worked on comprehension skills this week, as well as a review of the “F” and “C” sounds. We practiced sight words daily and blending of short “O” words.
